Easy6 Launch Week Day 2: IBT Mode is Here!

August 21, 2025

Day 2 of our launch week brings something we've been working toward for months: dedicated IBT mode support. After taking the 8th TOPIK IBT exam ourselves and analyzing the format extensively, we're excited to be the first TOPIK practice app with true IBT-specific features.

Why IBT Mode Matters

The Internet-Based Test isn't just the Paper-Based Test on a computer. As we detailed in our comprehensive analysis of IBT changes, the writing section has fundamentally different requirements:

  • Q53 essay format: 400-500 characters (not the PBT's 600-700 원고지 characters)
  • No 원고지 rules: You're writing in a plain text editor, not following manuscript paper conventions
  • Different argumentation style: More independent opinion formation rather than following a structured checklist
  • Typing speed matters: Korean typing proficiency becomes crucial for success

What's New in Easy6's IBT Mode

When you switch to IBT mode in Easy6, you get:

Authentic Q53 Essay Questions: We've created IBT-specific essay prompts that match the real exam format. These focus on current societal issues and require you to form an opinion with two supporting reasons - exactly like the actual IBT Q53.

Proper Character Counting: Our feedback system now counts characters the IBT way, helping you hit that 400-500 character sweet spot without the confusion of 원고지 conversion.

The Q53 Challenge

The IBT Q53 essay question is where many test-takers struggle. Unlike PBT Q54 which provided helpful structure, IBT Q53 asks you to independently:

  1. Form a clear opinion on a complex societal issue
  2. Develop two distinct supporting reasons
  3. Write persuasively within the 400-500 character limit
  4. Type efficiently under time pressure

Topics range from autonomous vehicles and environmental policies to social media regulation and urban development. The key is building confidence through practice with realistic prompts and getting feedback on your argumentation structure.

From Our IBT Experience

When we sat for the 8th TOPIK IBT, the essay topic was challenging - a government policy issue that required quick thinking and clear positioning. Having practiced extensively with our own IBT mode questions, we felt prepared for both the format and the type of critical thinking required.

The computer-based editing was indeed very convenient for revision and polishing, but only if you're comfortable with Korean typing. That's why we've also integrated typing practice directly into the IBT mode experience.

Getting Started

IBT mode is now live for all Easy6 users. Simply toggle to IBT mode at the top of your home screen, and you'll immediately see the difference in question formats.

Whether you're planning to take the IBT or just want to challenge yourself with a different format, this mode offers a fresh perspective on TOPIK writing practice.

The IBT represents the future of TOPIK testing, and we're excited to help you master it. Tomorrow brings another exciting addition to Easy6 - stay tuned!
